Air Economizer
Three fundamental problems remain:
- low specific heat,
- low density and
- high thermal resistance at the air-heatsink boundary.
1) and 2) still drive the need for at least two sets of fans to push the air around the cooling loop. The problem with 3) is alleviated by using cooler outside air to carry off the heat. This will work in most places most of the year, but a chiller plant may still be required for adequate cooling on the hottest days. Pollution may also introduce another set of problems. This problem may be overcome by using an air-to-air heat exchanger with the outside air cooled with an adiabatic cooler (which will require more fans to drive air through it!).
