Air has three fundamental problems:
- low specific heat,
- low density and
- high thermal resistance at the air-heatsink boundary.
1) and 2) drive the need for at least two sets of fans to push the air around the cooling loop and 3) requires a large temperature differential between chilled water and the hot CPU chips in order to get rid of the heat.
